MAPS Intesive Learning Classroom
Our intensive learning classroom is designed for children who need more support in order to learn those early, basic skills. We utilize a myriad of behavioral strategies including shaping (e.g., verbal behavior, natural environment teaching, embedded skills, Milieu), errorless teaching, as well as discrete trial teaching. We focus on language/communication, cognitive/pre-academics, play skills and self help skills (e.g., potty training, feeding, food expansion). When appropriate we address social skills with siblings, other students and neighborhood friends. When appropriate students learn how to participate in group activities.
Characteristics of our classroom:
- Educational setting for children 2-8 years
- 1:1 teaching
- 5.5 hours per day
- The ability to add time to your child’s day (beyond 5.5 hours)
- Supervised by Board Certified Behavior Analyst
- Individualized curriculum
- Curriculum programming based upon teaming with parents, professionals and published assessments (e.g., Assessment of Basic Language and Learning (ABLLS), Hawaii Early Learning Profile (HELP), Psycho-Educational Profile- Revised (PEP-R) as appropriate.
- Coordination with your child’s community therapists or other schools as appropriate
- Data collected and graphed daily
- Monthly written summaries
- Regular meetings with family/caregiver/school
- Skill areas addressed include: language/communication, learning to learn, pre-academic, self-help, play, and social.
- Teaching strategies based upon data based research including discrete trial and verbal behavior shaping methods.
- Each day your child will have 1:1 teaching as well as opportunities to spend time with classmates when appropriate in activities such as snack, recess, art and circle time.
